Movie Review: Twister (1996)

The movie ;D
This post is about a movie review that we did. Each one of us were to pick a movie related to the environment and discuss about it. I had chosen "Twister"

What is is:

Well... I guess it's pretty much understood what it is but i guess I'll go with it anyway.
A Twister is a world wind, a cyclone generated by a storm system with a low pressured center and storm clouds producing wind and rain. They're generally destructive, especially when the paths they take follow terrestrial routes.

What i think =)

So what i think about the movie... Well first off, this movie has got absolutely nothing to do with morals on humans disturbing nature and its consequences. The only reason i picked this movie is because it's got to do with how humans .. at times... just CAN'T do anything against nature's fury.

The movie starts off with the announcement of an invention which could drastically improve hurricane prediction rates. Two teams seem to have simultaneously come up with this invention (although the movie obviously wants the viewers to believe that the protagonist's team were the genuine one). The catch involves the invention to be manually laid on the path of an oncoming hurricane... at a dangerously close range.

The movie goes on to show their various failures at being able to predict the hurricane's path or being able to set up the instrument in time. (The instrument consists of spherical sensors which need to be activated before being simultaneously released with the rest of the sensors). As their many attempts fail, tensions mounts on the teams to perform a successful sensor injection before they run of sensors.

Towards the end, the hurricane season yields enough hurricanes to "ruin all their sensors" and leave them empty handed. But an intuitive idea helps them to come up with make shift sensors and gets them back on the road.

During one of the chases, the protagonist's team withdraws from the pursuit noticing that the hurricane had suddenly shifted course toward them. This causes the death of the their rival teams. (the hurricane's shift, that is ;D)...

The end sees the protagonist's team (and inevitably... the heroine too =/ )... getting to a relatively stationary hurricane and driving their car into it (they jump out, don't worry)... the hurricane "ironically" turns to pursue them and they "miraculously" escape it by strapping themselves to building foundations.

The movie, actually brings about a sense of sincere human effort and sacrifice to do as much as possible to overcome the inevitable and the unpredictable aspects of nature... And i think it's pretty relevant to the fact there does exists similar projects in real life.. they probably might not be as dangerous.... But they still have dedicated lives working for it.
